What is the Africa United Nations Knowledge Management Hub (AKMH)?

The Africa United Nations Knowledge Management Hub is a digital online ecosystem, ensuring integration, interoperability, and one-stop access to the distributed UN knowledge systems across the continent.

What are the objectives of this Hub?

The objectives of the hub include:

  •  To build on available knowledge management systems to identify, select, organize, disseminate, and transfer critical knowledge relevant to the work of the UNDS system and the Opportunity Issue based Coalitions (OIBCs) to accelerate the realization of the SDGs.
  •  To reduce duplication of efforts by serving as ‘ONE UN’ and to promote effective collaboration in the generation of new knowledge.
  •  To strengthen UNDS responsiveness to member countries for knowledge and innovations in support of the 2030 Agenda and the Agenda 2063.
  •  To develop and operationalize a UN regional expertise locating tool, facilitating the mapping and identification of expertise across the SDGs, OIBCs thematic areas as well as countries of expertise across the region.
  •  To develop a Community of Practice (CoP) platform for the OIBCs, serving as a peer-to-peer knowledge facilitation and networking service to promote discussion and collaboration on issues of common interest to the UNDS.
  •  To promote the harmonization of KM standards for all UN agencies, sharing lessons learned and relevant practices.

What is the Hub constituted of?

The Hub is a “mashup” constituted of different knowledge types including statistical data, raw data, datasets, publications, a roster of experts, discussions forums based on Communities of Practice (CoPs), multimedia, learning resources, development news, social media on the SDG, Agendas 2030 and 2063, availed via web services.

Who can contribute to the content of the Hub?

Participating agencies of the United Development System (UNDS) working across Africa can provide content for the maintenance and updating of the hub.
